If you’ve ever tried to add an extra field to your Flodesk form—like “I want to learn more about…”—you’ve probably hit a wall. Because this field will not show up online, unless you map this newly created custom field into a flodesk custom field. But the problem is, we want to map the field to the most meaningful custom field. Not the default one offered in flodesk such as phone, website, etc.

I went through the same thing recently while building a signup page for my early-access to mini-courses. I needed one simple field to understand what people were interested in learning. But the default Flodesk options only showed things like phone number, job title, company name…and nothing that fit.

Even ChatGPT kept giving outdated steps.
But the real solution turned out to be much simpler.

Here’s exactly how to do it.

The Real Way to Create a Custom Field in Flodesk (2025 UI)

Flodesk changed their interface, and most guides online still show the old version. In the new interface, custom fields are created directly inside the form, not in the audience settings.

Here’s how to add your own custom field:

Step-by-step

1. Open your form in Flodesk

Go to Forms → Edit → Fields.

2. Add a new field or click the field you want to customize

For example, I added:

I want to learn more about…

3. Open the “Map to data field” dropdown

You’ll see a list of default Flodesk fields (Phone, Website, LinkedIn, etc.).

None of them fit what I needed.

Here’s the trick:

4. Start typing the name of your custom field

Type exactly what you want, such as:

Interested to learn

5. Flodesk will instantly show:

Create “Interested to learn”

Click it.

That’s it.
Your new custom field is created and automatically mapped.

Why this helps

This one small feature makes your forms much more powerful because you can now:

  • Capture intent
  • Segment your audience
  • Tailor future emails
  • Personalize your offers
  • Understand what people truly need

And you can do it without digging through settings or guessing where custom fields are hidden.

Final Thoughts

I spent way too much time trying to figure this out—and even ChatGPT didn’t pick it up at first. So if you’re stuck trying to map a “non-default” field on your Flodesk form, remember:

👉 Just type the field name directly into the mapping input.
Flodesk will create it for you.

Simple. Fast. And works every time.
